www.ravelry.com is the premier website for knitting and crochet patterns, with over 800,000 patterns available. It is a wonderful resource for finding both free and paid patterns, but the sheer number of patterns can be really overwhelming when trying to choose your next project. This workshop will guide you how to use the website to its full potential.

We will focus on learning how to search the database effectively, from finding patterns to fit a set amount of yarn, to how to filter projects to find exactly what you need from all that choice! You will learn how to save and categorise the patterns for later - there’s nothing worse than finding the perfect pattern and then not being able to find it again!

Ravelry also has a large amount of user generated content, from images of complete projects to users' personal notes on patterns as well as active groups and forums. These are great for helping you to decide on whether a pattern is worth purchasing and you can see how a completed project looks “in real life”. You will learn how to find other users tips, tricks and amendments and see which patterns have been well tried and tested. We’ll also cover how to upload your own projects - allowing you to keep a record of your makes, and to help other knitters and crocheters with your experiences!

Getting the most out of Ravelry.com with Fiona Meade

  • Born and raised in Ireland, Fiona has been crocheting for most of her life. She gained her love of all things crafty from her multi-talented mother and her grandmother, who owned her own craft shop. After learning the basics, she taught herself to read patterns and hasn't looked back! She loves working with new yarns and trying out new crochet techniques. When not crocheting or looking after her young daughter, Fiona is a geologist, and has spent the last 15 years studying the volcanoes of Ireland, Scotland and beyond! She enjoys teaching as much as she enjoys crocheting itself, and has set up Fiona Meade Crochet to turn her hobby into a small business.
