The official Shetland Wool Week 2023 knitting pattern is here, and destined for your knitting needles. ‘Buggiflooer Beanie’, was designed by Shetland nurse and 2023 Shetland Wool Week patron, Alison Rendall.
The nature inspired design is knitted 'in the round', using circular and/or double pointed needles. The Buggiflooer design can be knitted in 3, or 6 colours. Meaning, you can choose the best kit to suit your knitting ability.
The first five of our kits have been selected to complement the original Buggiflooer colourways. The yarn used throughout is Jamieson's of Shetland Spindrift

- Courie - 5 x 25g balls Spindrift in colours Maroon, Cornfield and Ginger
- Smourich - 5 x 25g balls Spindrift in colours Shetland Black, Natural White and Sorbet

- Flichterin - 6 x 25g balls Spindrift in colours Cashew, Ivy, Sunrise, Rust, Ginger and Mustard
- Gloaming - 6 x 25g balls Spindrift in colours Black, Scotch Broom, Seabright, Surf, Natural White and Ginger
- Smirr - 6 x 25g Balls Spindrift in colours Shetland Black, Sorbet, Sholmit, Eesit/White, Natural White and Lagoon
- All kits include a printed copy of the official Bugiflooer Beanie knitting pattern.
Bugilfooer Beanie sizes and recommended needles
Small - To fit 48cm head circumference. Suggested needle size 2.75mm
Medium - To fit 51cm head circumference. Suggested needle size 3.00mm
Large - To fit 54cm head circumference. Suggested needle size 3.25mm
It is essential that you check your tension carefully and adjust your needle size accordingly.
All kits include enough yarn to complete the Large size hat. If working the 3 colour hat you may have enough yarn to complete a second hat.
Spindrift by Jamieson's of Shetland is a wonderful woolly yarn, made from 100% Shetland wool. It is perfect for traditional fair isle garments and all stranded knitting in general. It gives a wonderful light and warm woolly fabric to all projects. With over 190 colours in stock, Spindrift is one of the best selling yarns at Baa!

Buggiflooer Beanie Knit Kit
Due to high demand, some of the colourways are currently out of stock and appear "greyed-out" or missing from the drop-down menu above. New and repeat colourways will be added as stock becomes available.
Jamieson’s is a family owned business, which has specialised in wool from the native Shetland sheep for 5 generations. The family are dedicated to the survival of this unique fibre and as each new generation joins the business, this promotion becomes their life’s ambition.
In 1981, they opened Jamieson’s Spinning, Shetland’s only commercial woollen mill. This unique mill, built in Sandness, completes all the stages of yarn production under one roof. This includes grading, scouring and dyeing fleece before colour blending, carding, spinning, twisting and balling to produce their 100% pure Shetland yarn.
