Aal Ower Toorie Knitting Kit – Collection 1

An Aal Ower Toorie knitting kit will provide all the yarn required to make your very own Shetland Wool Week hat, 2025. Inspired by the vibrant Chris Morphet ‘Allover’ exhibition which took place at the Shetland Museum and Archives, the Aal Ower Toorie celebrates the timeless beauty of Fair Isle knitting. This latest hat knitting pattern was designed by Rachel Hunter for the Shetland Guild of Spinners, Knitters, Weavers, and Dyers and features a beautiful continuous allover pattern based on a 1930’s diamond grid design.

We’re huge fans of Shetland Wool Week here at Baa, so we could hardly let 2025 come without whipping up a bunch of hat knitting kits to help you cast on your own SWW toorie this year, could we?

Choose from 3 colourways
The Aal Ower Toorie knitting kit is available in three wonderfully woolly colourways using our bestselling 4-ply yarn, Jamiesons of Shetland Spindrift. Colourway 1 (Vintage) stays true to the original pattern, while Colourway 2 (Kaleyard) and Colourway 3 (Shetland Naturals) are our own takes using shades of Spindrift we think complement the original Shetland brands rather nicely.

Much like last year, we’re also planning a special selection of kits inspired by my daughter Jenny’s stunning ‘around the world’ photography, but more on those very soon!

Each Aal Ower Toorie knitting kit contains the required quantity of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift to make one hat:

Colourway 1 – Vintage
1 x 25g ball of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift, in each of the following shades: Yarn A: Moorit (108), Yarn B: Eesit (105), Yarn C: Sapphire (676), Yarn D: Daffodil (390), Yarn E: Madder (587), Yarns F: Natural White (104), Yarn G: Moss (147) and Yarn H: Nutmeg (1200)

Colourway 2 – Kaleyard
1 x 25g ball of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift, in each of the following shades: Yarn A: Dusk (165), Yarn B: Mustard (425), Yarn C: Clover (596), Yarn D: Flax (375), Yarn E: Lipstick (575), Yarn F: Buttermilk (179), Yarn G: Bottle (820) and Yarn H: Mint (770)

Sizing and needle suggestions:
The Aal Ower Toorie comes in 3 different sizes; small, medium and large. Each one recommends a different size of knitting needle so please check your tension carefully and adjust your needle size accordingly.

Small – To fit 47.5cm head circumference. Suggested needle sizes: ribbing 2.25mm, main 2.75mm

Medium – To fit 52cm head circumference. Suggested needle sizes: ribbing 2.5mm, main 3.00mm

Large – To fit 56cm head circumference. Suggested needle sizes: ribbing 2.75mm, main 3.25mm
