Laine Let’s Crochet Issue 2 Reviewed by Baa! Crochet Tutor, Fiona Meade

Summer crochet season is here, and we’ve got just the magazine to get you inspired. Our lovely crochet tutor, Fiona Meade gave us her thoughts on Laine’s latest crochet magazine, Let’s Crochet Issue 2…

Laine Let’s Crochet Issue 2, their crochet magazine for Spring 2026 is subtitled “Fresh & Fun”, and it doesn’t disappoint! It contains 17 crochet patterns that are ideal for the Scottish summer, from airy openwork sweaters to warmer layers that would be great for an evening by the beach. Plus it also includes some fun bags and accessories to complete your look.

Standout crochet patterns in Laine Let’s Crochet Issue 2

3 crochet designs included in Laine Let's Crochet 2: Brick by Brick Sweater, Good Point Vest and Clematis Sweater

Brick by Brick Sweater by Ana-Maria

A highlight of Laine Let’s Crochet Issue 2 is the Brick by Brick sweater by Ana-Maria from Crochet Highway which combines a variegated brick pattern with a solid mortar – perfect for our selection of 4-ply and sock yarns. It already has several projects saved on Ravelry and looks great on lots of body types.

The Good Point Vest by Julia Madill

The Good Point Vest by Julia Madill could be a great stash-buster and has a simple granny cluster stitch and an easy construction, making it a great option if you’re new to making crochet garments.

The Clematis Sweater by Stitch Storie

The Clematis Sweater by Stitch Storie (and Hana tee by Ana D) both use a classic openwork floral style and are sure to work up quickly, which is always a plus! Clematis uses a 4ply held with a mohair to add a cozy fuzz to its lacy texture, though you could equally go for a more structured look with a soft cotton like our Scheepjes Organicon.

Openwork crochet gives a great drape, which can sometimes be lacking in crochet garments and the Clematis sweater is a worthy cover choice. The openwork patterns at the back could do with a chart for the floral motifs just to make stitch placement clear, but the garments are well photographed in the main magazine which gives a helpful visual guide.

A fantastic crochet magazine for summer crochet patterns

Overall, I’m impressed with the selection of youthful and stylish crochet patterns in this Laine Let’s Crochet Issue 2. If you’re after a one-stop shop for crocheted summer wearables, this might be it!

Many of the garments could also be worn with layers to extend their season – or to cope with the highs and lows of the Scottish summer. The patterns have a modern take on some classic crochet styles and use the basic stitches well (US terms), so if you’re a beginner crocheter comfortable with chain, single and double crochet you should have no problem attempting anything in this volume. Now’s the time for a “fresh and fun” addition to your handmade crochet wardrobe!

My top tips before you start crocheting

With any garment pattern I always advise to log into Ravelry.com and view any projects that have already been uploaded. This can be trickier with books, but Laine have helpfully created Ravelry pattern pages for all the projects in this magazine (no digital patterns however, so pick up a copy at Baa!). The pattern comments can give invaluable tips and tricks, as well as ironing out any issues that arise with the patterns. The uploaded project photos can give some great ideas for colour choices and a good feel of how the garment might look on a similar body type to your own.

And of course… don’t forget to work up your gauge swatch…

So, is Laine Let’s Crochet Issue 2 worth a purchase?

We’d say that’s a pretty glowing review from our Fiona. If you’re looking for a crochet magazine packed with modern, wearable summer patterns, Laine Let’s Crochet Issue 2 delivers. With 17 crochet patterns for a range of abilities, from beginner crocheters to experienced makers, there’s a crochet design for most crafters.

As Fiona said, the designs aren’t yet available in digital form, so if you want to crochet something for summer, you’ll need to get your hands on a physical copy. Luckily we’ve got ’em in store or online, so come and grab one before they sell out!
