For our Summertime Knit-a-Long!

A couple of months ago Aurelie and I were discussing our favourite 4ply yarns, in particular those stocked at Baa. Two recent additions, Admiral Hanf by Schoppel and Cashmeri by Rico were seeking a pattern in which to show off their very different characteristics. Aurelie, who is a bit of a whizz on Ravelry immediately found 'Ritchie' and shared it to my Zoom screen before I had time to click on my Ravelry tab!

The following paragraph by the designer describes the knitting process of this very wearable accessory perfectly...

Ritchie is a parallelogram shaped wrap, knit seamlessly. It starts top-down and ends up bottom-up with no bind off! Combining innovative construction mosaic slipped stitch, texture and relaxing Garter, it is sure to please you on long fall evenings by the fire!

The pattern is easy to follow, including charts only for the mosaic sections. Don't know how to read charts? No problem! I have recorded a MOSAIC primer tutorial for you here - once you try it, there is no going back, it is that easy! Mosaic stitch uses only ONE color per row, resulting in stunning colorwork effects, win win!:)”

- words by Jenny Faifel from sweaterfreak.com

A few days later a parcel was on its way to Aurelie in Saudi Arabia, and a week or so after that… one complete Ritchie Shawl fell from Aurelie’s needles.

It would be difficult to disagree that this is a stunning shawl. I was impressed!

The very next day I cast on my own Ritchie Shawl using the same 2 yarns but in a very different colour combo.

'Ritchie' was such a meditative knit, and although I struggle to find knitting time these days, I just could not put it down! The garter stitch and stripe sections were so relaxing and the mosaic section required a little more attention, but nothing complicated... It is the perfect shawl, with just enough interest to keep ones mind calm!

Both shawls are now in the shop window, looking SO pretty, mostly due to the talents of the lovely Didi Jellema who works magic with the Baa window displays.

Aurelie and I enjoyed this knit so much that we had an inkling you may enjoy it too! After getting in touch with the designer, Jenny Faifel (aka Sweater Freak), we were delighted to be granted permission to sell Jenny's design and our yarn as a kit.

About the Ritchie Shawl Kits at Baa!

We have a wide selection of colour and price options for you, including 4 colour combo's of the yarn featured in our own samples. Further instructions on how to redeem your code and download the pattern will be provided by email following your kit purchase.

Our previous knit-a-long's have been very relaxed with help coming from shop visits, email and our virtual knit groups on Zoom. This time around we hope to provide more support and encouragement by hosting the KAL on our Facebook group, Baa Community. This is a closed group were friends of Baa share projects, inspiration and support. As it is a private group you will be asked to join, but it is super easy to do.

I will be releasing short technique video tutorials in Baa Community starting with the Garter Tab cast on! If you are not a fan of Facebook you can still ask questions via email or by joining one of our Zoom knit groups.

The official start date for the KAL is Monday 12th July which will allow time for any kit deliveries to arrive. Interested? Then jump in, select your Ritchie Shawl kit, and join us, you may even learn a new technique or two in the process!

See you soon,
