An Aal Ower Toorie Knitting Kit – Collection 2 will provide all the yarn required to make your very own Shetland Wool Week hat, 2025. Inspired by the vibrant Chris Morphet ‘Allover’ exhibition which took place at the Shetland Museum and Archives, the Aal Ower Toorie celebrates the timeless beauty of Fair Isle knitting. This latest hat knitting pattern was designed by Rachel Hunter for the Shetland Guild of Spinners, Knitters, Weavers, and Dyers and features a beautiful continuous allover pattern based on a 1930’s diamond grid design.

Our Collection 2 colourways take inspiration from 3 images by  Jenny Rose Photography. Each kit contains a range of carefully selected colours which Janice has chosen to complement the original photograph.

What’s inside the knitting kit?

Each of our bespoke Aal Ower Toorie knitting kits contain the required quantity of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift to make one hat plus a card explaining the correct bespoke colour placement.

Colourway 1 – Tokyo Camper
1 x 25g ball of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift, in each of the following shades: Yarn A: Sand (183), Yarn B: Sage (766), Yarn C: Poppy (524), Yarn D: Scotch Broom (1160), Yarn E: Shetland Black (101) – 2 x 25g (A) for Medium and Large sizes

Colourway 2 – Portugal Brights

Sizing and needle suggestions:
The Aal Ower Toorie comes in 3 different sizes; small, medium and large. Each one recommends a different size of knitting needle so please check your tension carefully and adjust your needle size accordingly.

Small – To fit 47.5cm head circumference. Suggested needle sizes: ribbing 2.25mm, main 2.75mm

Medium – To fit 52cm head circumference. Suggested needle sizes: ribbing 2.5mm, main 3.00mm

Large – To fit 56cm head circumference. Suggested needle sizes: ribbing 2.75mm, main 3.25mm

Spindrift by Jamieson’s of Shetland is a wonderful woolly yarn made from 100% Shetland wool. It is perfect for traditional Fair Isle garments and stranded knitting in general.
